Before Applying
Before applying to Tabula Rasa, please check the Reserves and Taken page to ensure your character is available. We also ask that you read over the Premise, Rules, and FAQ to be sure the game is a good fit for you.

Player and Character Caps
We have an overall player cap of 35 players in game.

Individual casts have a cap of 6 characters per canon. This count will include canon OCs when applicable, as well as canon AUs and adaptions.

Franchises that encompass multiple canons but take place in similar or shared universes have a cap of 10 characters total. This count will include all canons under each individual franchise. We will decide what does or does not count as part of a franchise on a case-by-case basis.

New Player Queue
If there are no player slots available, applications from new players will be added to a queue and processed as slots become available. If the wait time or size of the queue becomes too large (2+ months or 10+ players), new player applications may be temporarily closed.

If your app has been in the queue for over 30 days, you will be provided an opportunity to update it with any new information before it is processed. If the character being applied for was appable at the time of submission, but is no longer appable at the time of processing (such as if a cast or franchise cap was reached), players may be permitted to keep their position in the queue and submit a different app at mod discretion.

If you are in the queue but are no longer interested in applying to Tabula Rasa, please comment on your app to let us know so we can make room for the next player waiting.

Application Guidelines
Tabula Rasa allows canon characters, canon AUs (alternate universes), CRAUs/game transplants, original characters from original universes, malleable protagonists, and some original characters from canon worlds (fandom OCs). Please see our FAQ for details on acceptable characters.

In the subject line, please put the name of your character, your canon, and if you reserved or not.

You must include your entire application in the comments. Do not comment with a link to your application. If your app is too long to fit in one comment, reply to your initial comment as many times as needed.
Player Information
Player: Your name.
Contact: Your preferred method of contact, such as your personal Dreamwidth journal, Plurk, Discord, etc. If you reserved, this should match the contact given on your reservation.
Other Character(s): If you already have a character in the game, name them here. The current character limit is 2 per player.

Character Information
Character Name: Your character's full name in Western order (given name followed by surname).
Canon: The name of your character's canon. If this is an OC from an original setting, put "Original".
Canon Point: The canon point you will be playing from. If you are playing from a canon AU, you may make note of it here. If you are apping a CRAU, please provide a link to the game you are importing them from.
Journal: The journal you will be using to play this character.

Character Background: You may provide a link to a wiki page or other fandom resource that summarizes your character's background. If such a page doesn't exist or lacks important details, you can write your own summary. Please try to keep the length of this section reasonable and stick to only the major plot points with minimal headcanons. We don't need to know every single detail of your character's history.

For original characters, include a brief explanation of your character's world in addition to their personal history. This should give us an idea of what kind of setting your character comes from, as well as any canon-specific terms that might come up. If you have a world summary written up elsewhere, you may link to it instead.

For CRAU characters, include a summary of any key points from their history in their previous game(s). If your character had major CR with any canon characters, you must mention them here for player reference. Any character development or changes to personality should only be detailed in the Character Personality section below.

Character Personality: Give us a description of your character's personality, such as motivations, why they made the choices they made, who they are at their core, strengths and weaknesses, etc. You may make references to events in a character's canon as support, but this section should not just be a retelling of their history. We expect this to be at least a few solid paragraphs in length.

Character Abilities: Describe in detail any non-human abilities or powers your character has in canon. This section should be in your own words and not just a wiki link. If your character is a CRAU, you may include abilities they gained in their previous game.

Please note that your character's abilities may not be usable on arrival and will be completely subject to the current State Of The World.

Items: Any notable or special items your character will be bringing with them on arrival. Anything listed here should be something they would normally have on their person, such as a weapon or a piece of jewellery. You may include pets or summons here if they would be on your character at that moment. Large items (bigger than a car) will be allowed on a case-by-case basis.

If anything listed here has special powers, describe them in detail as you would for a character ability, and note that those powers may not function on arrival according to the current State Of The World.

Other: Any other notes you would like to make on your app, such as special circumstances or requests related to your character's arrival. Whenever possible, please consider asking your question on the FAQ before applying.

Imprint
You may provide up to three options for your initial imprint. If you do not use all three, you may delete the extra space. We recommend including at least one scenery imprint. For a more thorough explanation of imprints and the different categories, please see the Imprints page.

If you are reapplying for a character you have played previously, you may skip this section. The initial freebie imprint will only be given out once per character/player. If you applied previously but dropped before your imprint could be used, you may fill out this section again or copy it from your previous app. This is only if you are reapplying for a character.

Imprint Type: You may only choose Scenery or Species for your initial imprint.
Summary: Describe your imprint in one simple sentence that doesn't rely on canon terms, ex. "a large library filled with many books", "carbuncles, a species of small fox-like animals with gems on their foreheads", or "dead people go to an afterlife".
Full Details: This description must be 500 words or less. Please explain the nature of your imprint in detail, assuming the reader is unfamiliar with your canon. This section should strictly be about how the imprint is supposed to work, so do not include details on how it would go "wrong" or interact with other imprints and keep headcanon to a minimum. Not all details of an imprint may be used, but we recommend focusing on the details you would most like to be included. This section should be in your own words, though you may use wiki pages and other websites as a reference.

Samples
For your samples, you may choose from one of the following options:
  • 2 threads with different characters, each with at least 5 comments from your character. Thread samples may be taken from our Test Drive Meme, other Dreamwidth games, memes, or private storylines (PSLs), provided they reflect how your character will be represented in Tabula Rasa. Threaded samples should be no more than 1 year old at the time of submission.

  • A written prose sample of at least 3 solid paragraphs. This sample should contain elements of introspection as well as in-character actions, representing how you would portray your character in the game.
